We are a Charity Foundation which organizes some great customer entertainment and networking events to raise money for charity. Each year we distribute over $1 million to 20 or so children’s, disability and medical research charities. We tap the marketing and customer entertainment dollars of all our sponsors and turn these into charity dollars through a number of major events. We organize the biggest charity golf day in Australia, a black tie gala dinner, a massive charity auction, a regatta and an art union prize draw. In this way we hope to add some value by mobilizing funds from financial and corporate Australia.
Our Newest event is Australia’s largest Charity Horse Race Day. This will take place in late August/early September 2017 (date TBC) with 1,500 guests in the Grand Pavilion at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney.
The ASX Group and Thomson Reuters Australia (formerly Reuters) joined forces in 1999 to form a charity foundation with the objective of helping Australian-based children’s, disability and medical research charities by organising fundraising events in conjunction with the financial markets.
The most recent events were the annual Financial Markets Charity Golf Day and Gala Dinner held on 18 and 19 February 2016 which raised $1.5 million for 30 charities and the Financial and Media Markets Charity Sailing Regatta which took place on 20 November 2015 at Middle Harbour Yacht Club and raised $200,000 towards the total.
The next Regatta will take place on Friday 17 November 2017 at Middle Harbour Yacht Club in Sydney with some 60 yachts and 700 guests.
The next golf event will be held Thursday 23 and Friday 24 February 2017. A field of 360 Golfers supported by over 200 Corporate sponsors will play in the day and attend a glittering gala dinner for 800 guests.
To date, the combined funds distributed to a wide range of charities totals just under $26 million.
Participants in the regatta and golf day include top executives from financial and corporate Australia. The CEOs, Chairmen and Senior Executives of companies like ASX, Thomson Reuters, Westpac, NAB, UBS, State Street, TPG, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, CBA, Telstra and many others compete in the race. A number of these companies have already committed to enter a yacht in the next Regatta and participate in the Golf Day.
Sponsors are sought to cover as many of the costs as possible to maximise the amount distributed to the charities.
The Board is made up of executives from both the ASX and Thomson Reuters with an Independent Chair. The detailed fundraising is arranged through a full and part-time Secretariat headed by a General Manager.
